Berlin 15. 8. 2002 (PROTEXT/ots) - The Bluetooth SpecialInterest Group (SIG), an association of over 2000 technologycompanies, has just resolved a standard for the use of ISDN overBluetooth. Thanks to the new Bluetooth Common ISDN AccessProfile, known as CIP, Bluetooth devices such as PCs, PDAs andGSM telephones gain, for the first time, unlimited access toISDN data and telephone communications services. When using CIPall ISDN B- and D-channel capabilities and functions areavailable. The new standard defines the communication betweenthe so-called ISDN Clients and the ISDN Access Points using theinternational norms ETSI 300 838 and GSM 07.08. Wireless ISDNcommunication over Bluetooth is possible with the full ISDN datatransfer rate and a coverage of 100 meters and more.
PC, PDA and GSM-Telephone over Bluetooth Now ISDN Capable Ithas taken around 14 months for the expert team, appointed by theBluetooth SIG for preparing the Common ISDN Profile, toestablish a globally applicable standard for combining theextensive services of ISDN together with Bluetooth technology.Matthias Frey, team chairman and employee at AVM, the worldlargest manufacturer of ISDN PC controllers, is excited aboutthe results. "We now have an independent industry standard whichwill enable a variety of new ISDN and Bluetooth devices. In anextremely short time span the team managed to combine thechallenging ISDN technology with Bluetooth. This represents acomplete success." The CIP version 0.95 technical specificationsare presently available atwww.bluetooth.org/specifications.htm.The Bluetooth SIG issuesfirst of all the version number 0.95 to all officially adoptedand published Profiles.
