Frankfurt Airport's Coordinated Aircraft Movements to Increase Slightly

FRANKFURT, Germany (ots/PROTEXT) - At the upcoming IATA(International Air Transport Association) flight schedulingconference in Singapore, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) - Germany'slargest airport - will be able to offer the airlines of the worldgreater coordinated aircraft capacity. In the spring of 2002,the airport's official coordinated aircraft capacity for awardingthe time windows for take-offs and landings - so-called "slots" -will be increased from 78 to 80 movements per hour between 14:00and 22:00 daily. In agreement with the State of Hesse, the German FederalMinistry of Transport has now given Fraport AG Frankfurt AirportServices Worldwide (the owner and manager of FRA) approval forthis increase. The new regulation goes into effective inconjunction with the Summer Timetable 2002, at the end of March.Thus, it will be possible to plan for up to 45 landings per hourinstead of 43, during the afternoon and evening peak trafficperiods. Fraport AG's Executive Board Chairman Dr. Wilhelm Bender saidthat he is pleased with the federal transport ministry'sdecision. He emphasized that the experience of the past monthshas shown that the overall airport system can easily handle thisslight increase in capacity.
