Fraport AG Active in China: Tradeport Hong Kong Airfreight Logistics Center Opens

FRANKFURT 17. 3. 2003 (APROTEXT/ots) - Tradeport Hong Kong, anew airfreight logistics center, opened today at Hong KongInternational Airport (HKIA). This advanced-technology facilitywill serve primarily as a high-performance logistics hub forhigh-tech products being transported between China and Europe orChina and America. A joint venture of European and Chinesecompanies owns and operates Tradeport Hong Kong.

Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (theFrankfurt Airport company) has an 18.75 percent stake in theadvanced technology logistics center. Schiphol Group (AmsterdamSchiphol Airport) and Fraport AG - through their jointsubsidiary Pantares Tradeport Asia Ltd. -- have combined theirknow-how and jointly own 37.5 percent of Tradeport Hong Kong.The two renowned Chinese partners are Hong Kong Land Ltd. (partof the Jardine Matheson group) and China National AviationCompany Ltd. (CNAC).

In terms of size and function, the EUR 50 million TradeportHong Kong complex is unique in the region. The three-levelfacility offers space for about 20,000 pallets. The office andstorage areas comprise a total of 30,000 square meters. Theindividual levels feature special air conditioned and high-security (anti- theft) areas. Thus, Tradeport Hong Kong takesinto account the high-tech industry's special requirements forlogistics and security technology. Tradeport Hong Kong offersa wide range of additional services (including value- addedservices) such as packing, commissioning, quality controltesting, assembly, and repair.

Located at the cargo handling area only meters from therunway system at HKIA, Tradeport Hong Kong is the only on-airport logistics complex in Hong Kong. The facility is designedfor rapid and effective processing of products, whereby time-to-market and volume-to-market factors are critical for theprofitability of the product's life cycle.
