11.06.2002, 16:45

Frankfurt, Germany (ots/PROTEXT) 11.06.220 - Fraport AGbelieves that the statements of Hesse's minister of economics, transport, and state development, Dieter Posch, and thepresident of the Darmstadt administrative district, Gerold Dieke, confirm the company's plan for a new landing runway northwest ofFrankfurt Airport (FRA) - to expand airport capacity in keepingwith demand. Posch and Dieke announced (Raumordnungsverfahren orROV) in Wiesbaden today.

The ROV concluding report includes a number of conditionsthat Fraport AG and the Hessian air transport authorities mustfulfill before zoning can be requested (project approvalprocedure or Planfeststellungs-verfahren). In the next fewdays, the Darmstadt administrative district will provide Fraportwith detailed documentation regarding the ROV decision.

"We are very satisfied with the timeframe of the ROV," saidFraport AG's executive board chairman, Dr. Wilhelm Bender, in aninitial statement. "In this context, I would like to thank allour staff involved in the ROV during the last year for theirenormous commitment. I also wish to thank the representatives ofHessian authorities and institutions for their constructivecooperation."

Prof. Manfred Schölch, Fraport AG's deputy chairman andexecutive board member responsible for airport expansion, emphasized that Fraport will do everything possible to requestzoning (Planfeststellungsverfahren) still in this year. "We arewell within schedule and intend to have the new landing runwayoperational in 2006," Schölch said.

The most important finding of the ministry's final report onthe ROV is that the Runway South option is incompatible withregional planning requirements. A comparison of the tworemaining options (Runway Northwest and Runway Northeast)clearly shows that the Runway Northwest option is most compatiblewith regional planning requirements. After receiving thedocumentation, Fraport AG will analyze the regional planningdecision and later present its final evaluation.
