Fraport Traffic Figures - August 2004: Frankfurt Airport Welcomed Nearly Five Million Passengers in August * Month of Records: Peak Figures Also for Airfreight

FRANKFURT 14. září (PROTEXT/ots) - FRA/rap> Frankfurt Airport(FRA) welcomed 4,924,415 passengers and handled 42,286 take-offsand landings in August 2004 - more passengers and aircraftmovements in a single month than at any other time in theairport's history. Fraport AG - FRA's owner and manager - alsorecorded the best August for airfreight, with 142,555 metric tonshandled at FRA.

In August 2004, passenger traffic at Germany's busiestairport increased by 1.8 percent year-on-year to 4.9 million. Forthe eight-month period from January to August 2004, FRA evenexperienced 6.9 percent growth in passenger traffic. The majorgrowth factor was a 5.4 percent increase in intercontinentalpassenger traffic. India and China recorded particularly robustgrowth rates, while Japan also picked up again.

Airfreight tonnage at FRA increased by about one-seventh, or14.7 percent, compared to August 2003. Growth rates wereparticularly high on routes to Latin America (45 percent), NorthAfrica (37 percent) and the Middle East (20 percent). The FarEast (9 percent) and North America (10 percent) also experienceddynamic

growth. Over the January-to-August 2004 period FRA'sairfreight volume jumped by 12.6 percent.

Service reductions in FRA's domestic overnight airmailnetwork again impacted total airmail tonnage in August 2004, withonly 8,645 metric tons of airmail (down 8.4 percent) handled.

Up 5.1 percent, aircraft movements at Frankfurt Airportreached a new monthly peak. In addition, aircraft movementsreached a new daily peak on August 27, when FRA recorded 1,457take-offs and landings. This growth was due mainly to a rise inintercontinental traffic as well as East European traffic.Following a period of stagnation or decline, domestic flightsbegan to pick up again. The share of wide-body jets atFrankfurt Airport rose to 26.7 percent in the reporting month.

Most of the other airports of the Fraport Group also achievedstrong results in August 2004. Combined passenger traffic forthe six Fraport airports grew by 5.1 percent to 8,365,848 in thereporting month. With 2,059,717 passengers, Turkey's AntalyaAirport (AYT) recorded 15.1 percent growth compared to the sameperiod last year. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru achieved a 9.0percent jump in traffic, growing to 488,640 passengers in August2004. With 274,110 passengers, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN)registered an 11.2 percent increase in passenger traffic.Hanover Airport (HAJ)

declined by 2.6 percent to 559,555 passengers and SaarbrückenAirport (SCN) dropped by 2.0 percent to 59,819 passengers.

Total cargo throughput (including airmail) for the FraportGroup's six airports climbed to 181,448 metric tons, increasingby 13.2 percent over August 2003. The Fraport Group's airportshad a total of 70,665 take-offs and landings in August 2004, 5.5percent more than in the same month last year.
