Fraport Traffic Figures - December 2004: Frankfurt Airport Enjoys / Unprecedented Demand in 2004

Frankfurt/Main, Germany 13.01.2005 (PROTEXT/ots) - AnnualPassenger Traffic Exceeds 51.1 Million for the First Time -Airfreight Volume Soars.
Germany's largest passenger and cargo airport, enjoyedunprecedented traffic demand in 2004 - a year of records. InDecember 2004, Frankfurt Airport welcomed its 50 millionthpassenger. Closing the year with some 51.1 million passengers,FRA recorded a 5.7 percent jump in traffic compared to 2003 - anew annual passenger record and milestone in the airport'shistory.
Intercontinental flights served as the growth engine forFRA's passenger traffic, particularly connections to NorthAmerica, the Middle East, and the Far East. In the Asian market,destinations in India and China experienced the strongest growth.
FRA achieved double-digit growth in airfreight tonnage in2004. The record figure of 1.75 million metric tons represents a13.1 percent increase compared to 2003. Dynamic demand in trafficto and from Asian growth markets, in particular, played a majorrole in driving this growth, as well as the cargo volume todestinations in South America and North Africa. Frankfurt Airporthad a new daily cargo record on December 12, 2004, when some7,897 metric tons were handled.
FRA's airmail tonnage dropped further to about 117,800 metrictons in 2004, down 7.0 percent compared to 2003. Aircraftmovements increased 4.1 percent last year to nearly 477,500 take-offs and landings. Maximum Take-off Weights (MTOWs) rose by 7.2percent to more than 27.2 million metric tons in 2004. This meansthat large aircraft were deployed overproportionately.
Strong cargo figures were registered in 2004, particularlytowards the end of the year. In December 2004, FRA saw airfreighttraffic grow by 18.8 percent to 156,733 metric tons. With3.627,440 passengers in the last month of 2004, FRA recorded a3.2 percent increase compared to December 2003. Airmail declinedby 3.0 percent to 12,456 metric tons. Aircraft movements climbedby 6.6 percent to 37,841 take-offs and landings in December 2004.With 2,196,284 metric tons, FRA experienced 9.5 percent growth inMTOWs for the reporting month.
The other airports of the Fraport Group also reportedimpressive figures for the year 2004. The Group's six airportswelcomed 77 million passengers last year, 9.2 percent more thanin 2003. Some 12.4 million passengers used Antalya Airport (AYT)in Turkey, exceeding the 2003 figure by 27.4 percent. LimaAirport (LIM) in Peru registered about 5 million passengers in2004, up 11.9 percent compared to 2003. In Germany, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport had almost 2.8 million passengers last year, 13.6more than in 2003. Hanover Airport (HAJ) served more than 5.2million passengers last year, up 4.1 percent. SaarbrückenAirport (SCN) had nearly 460,000 passengers in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 0.4 percent.
Cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) for the FraportGroup's airports increased by 11.7 percent in 2004 to more than2.2 million metric tons.
