Fraport Traffic Figures - May 2005: Growth Continues at FRA - Group Airports Achieve Double-digit Increases - Antalya Declines

FRANKFURT/MAIN, Germany, 13. 6. 2005 (PROTEXT/ots) - TheFraport Group greeted 4.5 million passengers at its FrankfurtAirport (FRA) home base during the reporting month - a 2.6percent increase over May 2004 and a further improvement over theprevious months. Due to long weekends in May 2005, there was anincrease in short-break and vacation travel, which compensatedfor the lower demand in domestic and West European businesstravel. Mediterranean destinations were particularly popular,with the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cyprus, Greece,Tunisia and Turkey all achieving double-digit increases.Intercontinental traffic also continued to experience over-proportional growth, particularly routes to North America, Africaand the Middle East. China and India continued to be particularlydynamic growth drivers for FRA's Far East traffic.

FRA again enjoyed dynamic airfreight traffic, handling some152,062 metric tons - a new record for the month of May. Theloss of production days due to May holidays resulted in lowerfreight volumes for departing flights. Nevertheless, FRA'sfreight tonnage rose by 3.2 percent compared to the same monthlast year. The number of freighter flights at FRA grew by 12.5percent.

Increasing by more than a quarter, the Middle East region -with the United Arab Emirates leading the way - served as thegrowth engine. High-volume destinations in Asia, especially inChina, India and Korea, also recorded double-digit growth. FRA'sroutes to and from Eastern Europe and Turkey generated noticeablymore airfreight.

Because of the closure of the Frankfurt overnight domesticairmail hub, FRA's airmail traffic dropped noticeably by 18.7percent to 7,039 metric tons. Growth in international airmail wasnot enough to offset the significant decline in domestic airmail.

Aircraft movements at FRA climbed by four percent to 42,499takeoffs and landings in May 2005. Due to the over-proportionategrowth in freighter flights, maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs)experienced even stronger growth - climbing 6.4 percent to about2.5 million metric tons.

Approximately 6.3 million passengers used the Fraport Group'sairports in May 2005. Almost all of the Group's airports recordeddouble-digit growth rates. Traffic at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport(HHN) climbed by 17.4 percent to 278,853 passengers. HanoverAirport (HAJ) registered a 16.2 percent increase to 507,625passengers. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru welcomed 450,283passengers, an 11.2percent increase compared to the same monthlast year. Saarbrźcken Airport (SCN) also saw traffic grownoticeably by 11 percent to 48,530 passengers.

The Fraport terminal at Antalya Airport (AYT) was alone inregistering a traffic decline. Only 486,062 passengers wereserved here, following the April 2005 opening of a new secondterminal in which Fraport is not a partner.

The Fraport Group reported a 3.8 percent jump in cargo(airfreight plus airmail) in May 2005 to 186,614 metric tons.Frankfurt-Hahn Airport was particularly successful in thistraffic category, growing by 18.3 percent to 18,028 metric tons.

Total aircraft movements for the Group's airports dropped by2.1 percent to 64,542 takeoffs and landings - solely because ofthe transfer of traffic to the new terminal at Antalya.
