Hotel guests surf in their rooms free of charge / The new Hotel Gates opened in Berlin

Berlin (ots/PROTEXT) - A PC with free high speed Internetaccess in every hotel room - this sounds like a good idea but todate it had not been realised worldwide. This service is nowbeing offered by the newly opened Hotel Gates in the Germancapital, Berlin. A particular highlight of the opening phase isindividual surfing training - also free. The traditional style hotel near famous Kurfuerstendamm hasbeen completely renovated and adapted to the requirements oftravellers in this information society. In each of the 72 roomsof this elegant building - parts of which are under preservationorder - guests will find a modern flat screen PC with a 2.3 Mbitdedicated line on which they can surf round the clock free ofcharge, find out what's on in Berlin, send E-mail messages oreven work "offline" on the popular Office software program. Thesystem interface is set up in six languages, making the servicealso available in English, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian. "Nowadays it is even possible to surf the Internet on aplane", says proprietor Abraham Rosenthal explaining thereasoning behind his idea. "But the hotel sector is still laggingbehind in this information society". Rosenthal sees the 3.5million Euro renovation costs - 250,000 Euros alone were spent onIT equipment - as a good investment. "Berlin can expect risingvisitor numbers over the next few years. We feel sure we have theright product for guests of the future" Of course, not every visitor is an Internet expert - which iswhy, in addition to free Internet access, the Hotel Gates has onemore special service on offer in its introductory phase. Thehotel will provide a surfing instructor to give every hotel guesta personal introduction to the Internet, if required. From thefirst steps into the worldwide web to useful insider tips forcomputer experts - all questions answered and, of course, free ofcharge. With the help of the instructor, guests not only learn aboutthe Internet, but they are taken on a virtual Berlin Tour.Current events, opening times or the locations of good shops -the instructor will help hotel guests make their stay even moreexciting. Traditional, yet modern - the Hotel Gates offers its guests anattractive combination. Despite the most modern computertechnology, guests are not surrounded by a cold high-techenvironment. The listed façade, the stairwell and breakfast roomhave all been lavishly restored.
