Soft lighting creates an inviting atmosphere
BURSCHEID 11.09.2003 (PROTEXT/ots) - At the InternationalMotor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Johnson Controls and Philips willpresent for the first time an innovative lighting solution forthe rear overhead area. Whats special about this new lightingsystem is that it is seamlessly integrated beneath the textilesurface of the headliner, making it invisible until switched on.When switched on, it generates soft, diffused lighting, creatinga cozy atmosphere that makes the driving experience morepleasurable for both driver and passengers. With this new concept, Johnson Controls demonstrates howbroad-surface flat light sources can be integrated into theoverhead system without limiting the headroom of those seated inthe rear of the vehicle. The seamlessly integrated plastic plateis covered with the same material as the rest of the headliner, making it invisible until switched on and giving the overheadarea an appealing, homogeneous look. Light intensity can beregulated from ambient to entry light. This is made possible bythe new HiPerReflex lamp from Philips. Measuring only 16 mm x 35mm, the lamp is designed to optimally incouple light via opticalfibers, yielding a high luminous efficiency. An added benefit isthe lamps long life and the fact that it functions without acontrol device and less complexity means more space in thevehicle. The new lighting system offers excellent colorrendering; even when vehicle lighting is dimmed, colors are seenas if by daylight and the light spectrum generated is warm andinviting. New lighting concept based on Johnson Controls integrationexpertise With this new lighting concept, automakers can now layout a vehicles interior space without having to leave room forcomplex, cost-intensive light integration solutions since theseare now a thing of the past. Johnson Controls will be showingthis new lighting solution integrated into the headliner ofExecutive segment vehicles, in order to demonstrate how littleeffort is required to realize innovative lighting concepts. Thesystem is not only well-suited for Luxury segment vehicles, butcan also be employed in the Upper Medium segment. The newlighting concept will be available starting in model year 2006.
