Johnson Controls donates $1 million to UNICEF for disaster relief in Asia

Burscheid, Germany/Milwaukee, Wisconsin 11. 1. 2005(PROTEXT/ots) - Johnson Controls, one of the worlds leadingsuppliers of automotive interior systems, electronics andbatteries, today announced it will donate $1 million to UNICEF toprovide relief to those devastated by the deadly earthquake andtsunami in Southeast Asia.

"On behalf of our more than 123,000 employees around theworld, Johnson Controls is committed to helping the victims ofthis horrible tragedy," said John M. Barth, Chairman and CEO ofJohnson Controls. "Through our contribution to UNICEF, we hope tosupport immediate relief measures for the thousands of childrendevastated by the tsunami, and also provide some of the fundingneeded to begin rebuilding communities." UNICEF has been activelyinvolved in relief efforts for children in the affected areas bydelivering basic medical supplies, resources for displacementcamps, water purification supplies, and toys and schoolmaterials. The organization has set itself the followingpriorities: keeping children alive, ensuring children areprotected from exploitation, and getting children back to schoolas quickly as possible. "Johnson Controls and its employees haveshown great compassion and responsibility by contributing such agenerous amount to UNICEF," said Charles J. Lyons, President ofthe US Fund for UNICEF. "Corporations have shown extraordinarysupport since we began our aid relief in the tsunami-strickenregion of South Asia. The money donated is truly making animmediate difference in the lives of the 1.5 million affectedchildren in South Asia, many of whom have been orphaned orseparated from their families and are in critical need of basiccare and support."
