Korean Air Increases Cargo Services Between Frankfurt Airport and Seoul/Frankfurt/Rhine-Main Home of Europe's Largest Korean Business Community

Frankfurt/Main (Germany) 24. 6. 2003 (PROTEXT/ots) - KoreanAir (KE) has increased its cargo services between FrankfurtAirport (FRA) and Seoul-Incheon Airport (ICN), South Korea, fromthree to four freighter flights per week, in response toincreasing demand for airfreight capacities between Asia andEurope. The Asian airline is using Boeing 747-400F cargo jetsfor the new service. Last week, the inaugural fourth flight fromSouth Korea arrived at Frankfurt Airport, loaded mainly withelectronic goods. Only three hours later, the jumbo jet took offagain for its ten-hour non-stop flight back home.

Frankfurt Airport - the number one cargo hub in Europe andnumber eight worldwide (ACI 2002 figures) - and the surroundingFrankfurt/Rhine-Main region play an important role for Koreanbusiness and industry in Europe. According to the FrankfurtChamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Frankfurt/Main) more than57 Korean large-scale enterprises have established branches orEuropean headquarters here in the region.

In addition, 200 smaller companies offer various services andproducts. These include restaurants, transport firms, opticiansand car repair shops. About 10,000 Koreans live in theFrankfurt/Rhine-Main region, forming Europe's largest Koreancommunity. This vibrant business community is optimally linked toits homeland South Korea via the Frankfurt Airport hub and isserved by both Korean carriers, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines(OZ), which both offer several passenger and cargo flights perweek. Lufthansa (Asiana's Star Alliance partner) also offersfrequent flights between FRA and ICN.
