Level 3 Communications Announces Network Services Agreement With America Online

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (PROTEXT) - Level 3 Communications, Inc.(Nasdaq: LVLT) today announced it has signed an agreement withAmerica Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) for managed modem and networkconnection services. "AOL is clearly one of the companies in the vanguard of theinformation revolution," said Kathy Perone, senior vice presidentof Sales for Level 3. "We are pleased to provide networkinfrastructure services to help AOL as it continues to work tobring the best possible online experience to its members acrossthe United States." "Our agreementmeans that we'll be able to bring our members more modems andcontinue to enhance access." Level 3's Managed Modem Service was introduced in Fall 1998and is the first service to utilize Level 3's revolutionarySoftswitch-enabled network. Softswitches are technically advancedsoftware control systems, which Level 3 uses to provide customerswith services that combine the innovation and rapidly improvingperformance of IP networks with the reliability and ubiquity oftelephone networks.
