Nine international records with BMW hydrogen combustion engine officially confirmed by FIA

Munich 22.12.2004 (PROTEXT) - The Fédération Internationalede lAutomobile (FIA) has officially confirmed the nineinternational records set by the BMW H2R for hydrogen-poweredvehicles with a reciprocating engine. The records were set onSeptember 19th at the BMW Testing Centre in Miramas (SouthernFrance). The confirmation of our nine international records bythe FIA provides impressive evidence of the performance capacityof BMW hydrogen technology. BMW has written automobile history,says Prof. Dr. Burkhard Göschel, Member of the Board forDevelopment and Purchasing, BMW AG.

Here are the detailed records achieved by the BMW H2R,arranged according to distance, time and average speed:

This monovalent record vehicle benefits from thetechnologies of the serial development. In the following years,BMW will make a 7 Series version available to customers which canbe operated both on hydrogen and petrol. This is an importantstep towards the introduction of hydrogen into everyday motoring.
