Optimized Check-in Procedures and More Check-in Facilities Now in Service at Departures A and B of Terminal 1

Frankfurt/Main (PROTEXT) - Passengers beginning their journeyat Frankfurt Airport (airport code = FRA) will now benefit fromnew optimized check-in procedures and additional check-infacilities implemented at Departures A and B of Terminal 1 -Frankfurt Airport's busiest terminal areas. Effectiveimmediately, these departing passengers can only use the check-inhalls of Departures A and B and can no longer go directly to thedeparture gates in Piers A and B to check in and receive theirboarding cards. All departing passengers entering Piers A and Bnow require a valid boarding card. At Pier C of Terminal 1 andPiers D and E of Terminal 2, departing passengers can still enterwith either a valid airline ticket or boarding card. The changes underscore Flughafen Frankfurt/Main AG's (FAG) -the Frankfurt Airport company - commitment to maintaining FRA'senviable record as a high performance global gateway. With therapid growth in passenger traffic - almost 50 million passengersat FRA in 2000 - the changes are aimed at optimizing check-in andgate-boarding procedures, as well as passenger/hand-luggagescreening. For example, there will be less congestion becausefewer passengers will be taking large hand luggage through thesecurity control points on their way to the departure gates. New "Priority Check-in" Areas Opened: Departures Halls A and Bare mainly used by passengers of Lufthansa, the Star Alliance andother Lufthansa partner carriers, as well as some other airlines.In conjunction with the new check-in procedures, Lufthansa hasopened extra check-in facilities to boost capacity and service inDepartures Halls A and B. Located in the western part of Departures Hall A near terminalEntrance 1 and in Departures Hall B near terminal Entrance 4,these so-called "Priority Check-in" areas provide special rapidcheck-in services to first and business class passengers, as wellas Lufthansa Senator and other frequent travelers. Also, thesepassengers can still use the curbside check-in located in frontof Departures Hall A. More Automated Check-in Machines Installed: Also in DeparturesHalls A and B, Lufthansa is now offering 37 "Quick Check-in"self-serve machines, including several for baggage check-in.These machines can be used by passengers: who have tickets with amagnetic strip (ATB); who have booked an etix(r) paperless ticketwith their credit card or Lufthansa Miles & More card; or whohave booked their flight via telephone, fax, the Internet or amobile phone supporting WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). "Check-in T" at the AIRail Terminal: Located near the entranceto the AIRail Terminal Frankfurt Airport, the special "Check-inT" area provides convenient check-in (baggage and boarding card)for passengers arriving via long-distance trains. Inaugurated inJune 2000, "Check-in T" can be used by passengers flying withLufthansa, those airlines handled by Lufthansa, as well as allairlines handled by FAG.
