Pantares and Tradeport Partners / Will Develop and Manage New Logistics Center at Hong Kong International Airport

Frankfurt/Main (ots) - Pantares - the alliance between FraportAG (Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide) and Schiphol Group -and its Tradeport Hong Kong Ltd. partners have been chosen by theHong Kong International Airport Authority (HKIA) to develop andmanage a new logistics center over a 27-year period at Chek LapKok Airport. Pantares holds a 37.5 percent share in the winningTradeport Hong Kong Ltd. consortium. The three local partnersinclude service provider and handling company Jardine LogisticsServices (HKG) Ltd. and real estate developer/investor HongkongLand Holdings Limited with a combined 37.5 percent share, and theChinese government's China National Aviation Company Ltd. (CNAC)with the remaining 25 percent. About a dozen internationalcompetitors bid against Tradeport Hong Kong Ltd. for thelogistics center project. The consortium will invest some HK$500 million in building andequipping the advanced facility. Construction on a 1.38-hectaresite in the South Commercial District of the airport island isscheduled to start in the second half of 2001, with operationsbeginning in early 2003. Designed as a four-story building, theTradeport Hong Kong center will initially comprise more than28,000 square meters of floor space and will later be expanded toover 41,000 square meters. To be called Tradeport Hong Kong, the logistics anddistribution center will be the first complex for logisticsservices to be built at Chek Lap Kok Airport, complementingexisting cargo handling and forwarding facilities. Tradeport HongKong will serve as a cargo handling and distribution center withfast goods logistics and services including customs clearance,storage (bonded warehouse), testing, packaging, labeling, andrepacking to complete warehouse and delivery management. In December 1999, the Hong Kong Airport Authority issued atender for the development and realization of a logistics center.At the beginning of 2000, Fraport and Schiphol Group indicatedtheir interest in participating in this logistics center project.Tradeport Hong Kong is the first project in which Fraport andSchiphol Group will be working directly together in the areas ofcargo and ground handling. In the future, Fraport and SchipholGroup intend to create a global network of Tradeports. In 1999, Fraport and Schiphol Group announced their intentionto cooperate, particularly on international projects. Last year,they officially launched Pantares, the world's firstinternational airport alliance. The Pantares partners alreadymanage and develop two of the world's leading air cargo gateways: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA).Fraport has extensive experience in providing logisticsservices: The first Tradeport was built at Frankfurt Airport(FRA) in 1992. Schiphol Group has substantial experience indeveloping and managing logistics buildings.
