Positive study results with regard to the needle-free injection system INJEX(TM) for use in diabetes mellitus -pain- free and skin-friendly application confirme

Berlin, Germany (ots/PROTEXT) - The MedizinischeUniversitätsklinik Bergmannsheil Bochum has presented to Rösch AGMedizintechnik (WKN 529140), Berlin, a study in respect of theneedle-free injection system INJEX(TM). The contents of thisneutral study are blood sugar and insulin kinetics of a pen-injection as compared to an injection with the needle-freeinjection system INJEX(TM). The study was carried out under the management of the directorProf H Schatz. The results of the study will be presented as alecture at the annual meeting of the Deutsche DiabetologenGesellschaft (DDG) in May 2001 in Aachen. The results are an excellent basis for the big advertisingcampaign in the business sector Diabetes of Rösch AG, to commencein April 2001. Medizinische Universitätsklinik Bergmannsheil Bochum Blood sugar and insulin kinetics with needle-free injectionversus pen-injection Question: for some time now, needle-free injection systemshave been on the market which not only offer a significantimprovement of quality of life but supposedly also administrateinsulin just as reliably as traditional treatment systems. Bloodsugar and insulin kinetics following use of these injectionsystems has so far been insufficiently examined. Method: we examined the blood sugar and insulin kinetics often patients over a total period of six hours following theadministration of insulin by means of a needle-free injectionsystem (INJEX(TM)) and compared this with the relevant kineticsafter traditional administration via pen. In addition, patientsatisfaction of both treatment systems was recorded. Results: no statistically significant differences with regardto blood sugar and insulin kinetics could be found at measurementtimes between the two insulin administration systems. On average,the needle-free injection system was assessed as satisfactorywith regard to preparation, change of cartridge and dispensing.The system scored very well with regard to lack of pain and skinreaction. Summary: using the needle-free insulin injection systemINJEX(TM), a blood sugar control comparable to that of insulininjection via pen can be obtained with simultaneous reduction ofpain and less irritation of the skin. The somewhat more difficulthandling of the insulin injection system is viewed asdisadvantage.
