Russian Space Landing at Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt/Main, 10.02.2002 (PROTEXT/ots) - A Russian spacelanding occurred at Frankfurt Airport on Saturday, April 6, whenthe gigantic Antonov AN124-100 aircraft touched down withspecial cargo on board -- including the 2.5-metric-ton MIR spacestation - for the "Russia in Space" exhibition being hosted atFRA over the next 11 weeks. Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport ServicesWorldwide is presenting the European premier of thisextraordinary exhibition of spaceships and other items whichdocument Russia's 45-year space history: from the launch ofSputnik (the world's first Earth satellite) on October 4, 1957,up to 2002. The official opening on April 12 will commemorate theanniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first manned space flight. A bigattraction for passengers and the general public, the exhibitionwill run daily (9:00 to 19:00) from April 13 through June 30 atthe Airport Gallery 1, on the mezzanine in Departures Hall B ofTerminal 1.

This cosmic collection from Moscow's Memorial Museum ofCosmonautics features the full-size MIR space station that wasused for cosmonaut training. The MIR operated for a record 15years around our Earth. Other items being exhibited include theoriginal Lunochod 2 moon vehicle, plus other originals and modelsof space hardware from the famous Sputnik, Sojus, Wostock andBuran projects. You can also see space suits and devices, as wellas various items from daily life in space. "Russia in Space" ispresented by Fraport AG in cooperation with East Art & CulturePromotion GmbH of Bad Homburg (near Frankfurt). The officialopening on Friday, April 12, will include senior representativesfrom the Russian Federation's Ministry of Culture and FraportAG's Executive Board.

Visitors to the "Russia in Space" exhibition will have to paya modest admission fee. For adults from 16 years, admission costs11 per person. Children 6 to 15 years, students, or people withdisabilities pay 6. Special rates are available for families andgroups. For example, a 25 family ticket covers the admission fortwo adults and up to three children (up 15 years).
