Munich (PROTEXT/ots) - Mobility is no longer optional. Mobilephones, notebooks and PDAs are standard issue for today'scommunication and Internet connectivity needs. So why do youstill have to transfer dates and appointments from your organizerto the laptop by hand? Why doesn't your mobile phoneautomatically send an e-mail to notify the PDA? Why is using yourmobile to look for information on the 'Net so difficult, so time-consuming? Why is it so easy to lose or overlook important data? The reason is that, up to now, communication was made up of somany isolated components - email, SMS, pagers, Internet access -all working independently of each other. Now, there is a solution: portals with Smart Services. These"intelligent" services are tailored to users, taking into accountwhere they are and what information channel they are currentlyaccessing. They help users stay on top of things: new addressesand appointments are automatically noted on both PDA andnotebook; information is automatically adapted and displayed onwhichever device is currently in use; e-mails are even convertedto voice mails should the user not happen to be online. Theportal converges all these individual communication componentsand Smart Services to form a unified, personalized communicationenvironment. This wonderful world of wireless is based on the "WirelessPortal" from iPlanet, the first platform of its kind in theworld. The Wireless Portal is not configured for a particularmachine: it works with notebooks, PDAs and mobile phones alike, integrating a broad range of services.
