Summary: German Environmental Award 2004 for En- trepreneur Alfred H. Jung and Researcher Professor Antranikian / DBU honours the commitment and the development

Osnabrück 14.10.2004 (PROTEXT/ots) - This years winners ofthe German Environmental Award are named: the with 500,000 Eurosupremely endowed European environmental award goes to the NorthRhine- Westphalian entrepreneur Alfred Heinrich Jung (49) and theHamburg microbiologist Pro- fessor Garabed Antranikian (53). Thusthe Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt DBU acknowl- edges theachievements of two environmental pioneers. Alfred H. Jung,founder and head of the medium-sized company Jungtec, which isspecialised on the manufacturing of gas-kets, receives the awardfor an innovative technology leading both to an immense environ-mental relief and a reduction of health dangers. ProfessorAntranikian, head of the Institute for Technical Microbiology ofthe Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, looks into ex- tremehabitats and is awarded for his work in the field of whitebiotechnology with which chemical processes can be altered in away that the environment is considerably relieved.

The lifes work of Professor Dr. Hannelore (Loki) Schmidt (85,Hamburg) is honoured with an honorary prize. Federal PresidentHorst Köhler is to present the award on 31 October in Mainz.
